ONCE A MONTH WE HOST A DIP & CHILL FOR MENTAL HEALTH
Duration: 2 Hrs
It’s about dips not distance, it’s about chill-time in the ocean.
It’s about giving your brain a break and recharging your spirit through full immersion in the sea.
Water is sacred for many, and many see the ocean as such a space. Many too are intimidated by the sea and her seasons. Fear of drowning, fear of sharks, fear of the deep blue, fear of self.
Our Dip & Chill events are geared to get you to confront and manage those fears in a safe space, and to allow you to immerse yourself in her healing embrace. There’s no emphasis on distance. There’s an emphasis on splashing, on community, on getting a little further than last time, on feeling the waves, feeling the sand with your bare feet, on tapping into her pulse.
Everyone is welcome. Shape, ability, costume colour, language, grandparent, grandchild, doesn’t matter. What matters is you connecting to others, and you connecting to the sea. We’ll walk you through the basics and have experienced open water swimmers on hand to keep an eye and offer a handy hint.
Inspired by the UK’s Mental Health Swims, who’ve recently had to close due to lack of funding, we’ve been at this monthly event for some years now. We’ve decided to keep at it. Modern life has mental health in its sights, but the sea and community are powerful antidotes. After all is said and done the ocean is just plain lekka!! Come feel it for yourself.
Where to Meet
We gather at Wayne Pheiffer Cycles (corner of La Roche Drive and Beach Road, GQ), in their parking lot behind McDonald’s, where we’ll meet before walking down together to the water. Look out for a bunch of excited, friendly faces, and our huge pink pirate flag for easy recognition – we can’t wait to welcome you!
