Mobility: Not wheelchair specific but we welcome disabled swimmers to reach out and will make provisions for your needs, the quay has ramp access and there are beach wheelchairs available



Our chartered swim-tour takes swimmers out to Roman Rock Reef where we start the 5 km (safety accompanied) swim back to Kings Beach, as the crow flies.

This swim is for competent open water swimmers who are comfortable with swimming 5-6 km in the ocean. It’s not a timed event, you swim your pace, the goal is for an awesome (deep) open water experience. Sea temperatures vary between 14-18 oC in winter and 17-22 oC in summer. You are likely to swim in swells which vary according to the season. Indian Ocean swimming rocks like no other.

The charter needs three things: your ideal “window period”, a group of ten swimmers, and weather conditions good enough to swim. We provide the support boat, kayak safety crew, beach support upon exiting the water, warm coffee and a snack box as well as many add on extras. You have options people.

The Roman Rock to Kings ocean safari begins when you step onboard and head out PE harbour for a sunrise cruise on the luxury catamaran (our support boat). This stable platform offers a unique view of the city as you depart on your ocean safari to the swim start, all with coffee and rusks in hand. Then we head south, towards the Cape Recife lighthouse and a circular route to Roman Rock Reef. A pinnacle reef that is 2,5 km offshore, marked by a shipping buoy that alerts marine traffic to the shallow passage. The reef is named for the large number of red roman fish that are found here and made up of underwater gullies and pinnacles which teem with fish, basket stars, starfish, sea fans, anemones, soft corals and pyjama sharks. Many creatures from the smallest colourful nudibranch to the Ragged-tooth shark also share a spot on this popular reef. We then add ten super-chuffed swimmers to that eclectic mix.

Join us on the iconic open water adventure, showcasing the best views of the Bay. You see all the way from the lighthouse to the harbour giraffe (loading cranes). It’s a panoramic masterpiece every time you breathe to your left. The swim of legends. Oh yes, are you brave enough to attempt swimming Shark Alley?

Being of sound mind and body, and by my own free will, hereby acknowledge and agree to the following: Open water swimming has by its nature inherent risks and hazards associated with swimming in outdoor open water venues and these risks may in turn lead to loss or damage to property, injury to person and in extreme cases loss of limb or life. Long-distance swimming requires that the swimmer be suitably skilled and have a high level of physical and mental fitness to complete the swim without harm to the person or others. I confirm that I have no known underlying conditions that may threaten my physical or mental wellbeing and that I am suitably fit and experienced to undertake the swim activity. Awehness, it employees, and agents will take reasonable open water safety measures and precautions, including compulsory pre-activity safety briefings and keeping suitably experienced safety persons and craft in close proximity to swimmers during the swim activity to ensure an optimal safety environment for the swim. I, in turn will attend the compulsory pre-swim safety briefings, follow instructions given to me by designated safety persons, stay within the bounds of the swim route, take reasonable action to avoid harm to myself and others during the activity, and alert safety persons timeously if I am in any distress or discomfort. I confirm and agree that if instructed to stop swimming by an Awehness person I will immediately do so. I hereby release and agree to indemnify Awehness, its directors, employees and agents free and harmless from any and all costs losses, expenses, damages, claims, suits, causes of action or any other liability whatsoever that may arise from my participation in the swim activity, including damage and/or loss of property, limb and life. By signing this agreement, I confirm that I have read and understood the risk associated with the Awehness planned swim activity and that I, including my estate, heirs, or beneficiaries, agree of own accord to be bound by the terms and conditions this indemnity and waiver places upon me.

Terms & Conditions:
Entries are STRICTLY NON-REFUNDABLE once made. If withdrawing or unable to take part once signed up, it is the responsiblity of the athlete to find a suitable replacement to take over their entry. Entry TRANSFERS will be permitted whilst entries are still open at an admin fee of R100. Strictly NO CHANGES will be considered after close of entries.

Refund Policy
When entering, you accept that all entry fees are non-refundable - you are making a non-refundable purchasing decision and must agree to this policy. You may apply for an entry transfer (R100) to allow someone else to use your entry if you can't make it. This policy stays in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected business or family emergency, illness, pregnancy, etc. There are NO exceptions. Once you register, unrecoverable race course services and items are paid for for you as if you will be attending the event. No transfers after close of entries.

We reserve the right to cancel the event due to events out of our control such as a natural disaster or emergency. No refunds will be issued under these circumstances. We may also alter the courses and distances at any time if required due to course blockages or other restrictions or impediments. There will be no fee refunds for a canceled event.


